"He'd told me about an experiment here in Davis that lasted thirty years. Generations of beagles were exposed to strontium-90 and radium-226, their voice boxes removed so that no one would hear them suffering" (231).

This is so painful for me to read because I've been around beagles for so much of my life. They're hunting dogs, so they love to howl by default. Denying them of that right is absolutely horrible.

How could you possibly harm an animal like this?

"He talked about car companies that, as part of their crash studies, subjected fully conscious and terrified baboons to repeated, horrific, excruciating blows to the head" (231).

This conjured up horrible memories of videos of the same experiments occurring in Earthlings. I still think that that was the hardest part of the movie to watch.

Screenshot from Earthlings of the head injury experiments... I had to force myself to go back and watch this to remind myself of how horrible this type of animal experimentation is.
